6:00AM, Saturday morning, competitors are meeting for the briefing of Competion Day 1 for the Hobie Fishing European Championship powered by Okuma. After going over the starting procedure and the handout of the key tags and measuringboards the anglers headed onto the water for to get ready for the start.
After the Swedish national Anthem played, 44 anglers pedalled their way onto Lake Åsunden chasing 2 pike, 2 perch and 2 zander. The foggy morning made a nice scenery, where it did not take long before anglers caught the first fish. Within minutes, the TourneyX scoreboard received the first uploads and since then they are steadily coming in.
Brian Dalskov, DK had the honour of uploading the first fish, a 66cm Zander. Fish came in at a steady pace afterwards. The detectable pattern for the judges was, Perch and Zander first, targeting Pike afterwards. Early morning, current World Champion, Stian Slora briefly took the top spot after which the winner of the Amal Kayak Fishing Challenge, Linus Ekwall took over that place for a bit. His brother, Robin Ekwall passed him, before Florian Linner took over the top spot for Day 1! That’s how close it is. One fish can make a massive difference, and every centimeter counts.
Everybody arrived back safely and the current top 5 is al follows:
- Florian Linner, DE, 329CM
- Martin Breuer, DE, 312CM
- Robin Ekwall, SE, 307CM
- Linus Ekwall, SE, 303CM
- Stian Slora, NO, 298CM
Check out the full standings of day 1.
In preparation of tomorrow, anglers will head down to Hotel Bogesund for a dinner and drink. See you all tomorrow.
