Ooltgensplaat, The Netherlands. Ten years ago, a group of 40 anglers from across Europe travelled down to Ooltgensplaat in the Netherlands to fish the first ever Hobie Fishing European Championship. What they did not know back then was that it wasn’t just a fishing competition. It ended up being gathering of friends that all share a passion for kayak fishing. Since then, the event has travelled across the continent with editions in France (2015, 2018) , Sweden (2016, 2023) , Italy (2022), Serbia (2019) and the Netherlands (2014, 2017, 2021) again. The group of friends grown, it became a yearly reunion. And today we kicked of the 10th Hobie Fishing European Championship.
64 anglers from 9 countries registered, collected their goodie bag and sat down for the captains briefing this night. But not before two days of practice on the Haringvliet, Hollands Diep and Volkerak. This years event has a slightly different format than previous years. Instead of fishing on body of water two days, we will fish a different body of water each of the competition days. The kayak anglers will fish the Haringvliet and Hollands Diep during HFE2024 competition day 1 and will fish the Volkerak on Sunday for HFE2024 competition day 2.
Two pike, two perch and two zander is the target for the competitors each day. They will upload their catches via the scoring app TourneyX and this can be followed live here. They keytags will be handed out at 6:00AM tomorrow morning and the start is scheduled at 7:00AM. Follow our social channels to stay up to date.
Here are some shots already from practice day 2. Many more to come.
