Day one of the Hobie Fishing Euros powered by Rapala are underway. Finally… Some heavy winds threw out the original launching plan at the banaan and it was decided to launcg at the north side of het Hollands Diep. After a quick relocation, we were able to start at 8:30 AM for HFE10 day one.
A northeastern wind was blowing straight at the original launch site. As a result, launching from the original launch spot was just not possible. Moving the start was the only option for a safe start and day. The north side of the Hollands Diep is sheltered by the land and anglers can launch and fish safely there for the day. With just an hour and a half delay, relocating 65 kayak anglers with all their gear takes some time, anglers pedalled out onward the Hollands Diep to chase the Pike, Perch and Zander.
German angler Wolfgang Schulze (winner of Hobie Predator Open 2015 at the banaan), didn’t waste any time and uploaded the first fish of the event within 15 minutes of launching. A 66cm zander hit his lure and ended up on the Traascustoms measuring board. As more anglers arrived at their spots, catches started to trickle in.

64 anglers are trying all their lures, tackle and tricks to find those big fish! Which is always a pleasure to see! Over 100 fish was caught and submitted during the day. Given the weather circumstances that is quite the achievement. The anglers proved to have excellent skill and control over their kayaks that the windy conditions did not affect them. Let alone having to change their game plan last minute.
All anglers got back safely by 4:00PM and headed back to their accommodations before going to the Hoezemoos to enjoy a nice dinner.
